Chapter History

Lambda Zeta Chi was founded on December 13, 2002 by eight young women, determined to expand the Greek system at the University of Illinois at Chicago while basing an organization on three very important pillars: sisterhood, loyalty, and trust. The founding sisters included Monika Gil, Samantha Jean Kick, Elizabeth Roxanne Kelso, Kinga Anna Skowronek, Colleen Marie Dedecker, Debra Marie DeBlasio, Kristen Tywan, and Kelly Zeikute.

After the first official election, Monika Gil was chosen as the Alpha Chapter's first president. The other original officers included Elizabeth Kelso as Vice President, Colleen Dedecker as Treasurer, and Samantha Kick as Secretary. Through Monika's leadership, the founding class was provided with the knowledge of how to become a successful and functioning chapter, as well as a foundation for what was to be expected of every sister. Appropriately, Monika Gil also became the first sister to achieve alumna status.

Today, Lambda Zeta Chi is a well-established, well-organized, and highly motivated organization. Through various trials and tribulations, the sorority has proved itself time and again, continuing with the drive that was apparent back in the beginning. With every new class that is brought in, Lambda Zeta Chi grows stronger and stronger; each class is more dedicated and enthusiastic than the last. We pride ourselves in our strong connections with each other, along with our philanthropies - NAMI & ABTA. The sisters have instilled high standards for any girl who wishes to become a member. Members of Lambda Zeta Chi show their commitment to the sorority and these organizations through sisterhood and community service.
